The Itinerary

Here is the itinerary! It probably won't change much from here on out. We chose destinations based on places we've been before and places we've always wanted to go, so we're revisiting some favorite spots and exploring some new ones.  Note that we're visiting every Disney park  in the world! ooo

We left home on December 30, 2012 and will return in December 2013, after visiting approximately 40 countries on seven continents.

  1. SQUEEEEE!!! So excited! So jealous! How many of these places have you been to, and how many are new? Easter Island!!! But no Malta or St. Helena? I'm enamored of both these days, ever since hearing about Malta on NPR and learning that St. Helena is not in the Mediterranean but in the middle of the Atlantic and accessible only by mailboat from South Africa. How cool is that?!?! Kathmandu! I know you've been to India, but will Nepal be new? Going to the Everest basecamp? I know you wanted to do that. And Jordan - are you going to Petra? If it's still open to tourists? Not Russia or Iceland? Galapagos Islands? A year seems like such a long time, but it's still not enough to see every place. How cruel to have to make choices!

Wow. If I were doing this, I doubt I'd have it all planned out. I might have a couple of entry and departure dates for continents, but otherwise I'd probably want to wing most of it.

Are you going to do the ol' backpacker thing at all? Hostels and pensiones? For that matter, how much luggage will you be taking? You gonna take a computer, or just your smart phone? Or iPad - I'm sure you have one. Suppose that would make the most sense. Are you working with a travel agent, or making all the arrangements yourself? The logistics of it are just the kind of thing I love about travel, so if you want to post about all the boring details, I'll eat them up!

  2. The world is such a big place, and you'd think that you could see a lot more of it in a year than what we've got planned. When we first made the list pf places we wanted to go, it was so long that we realized it was more like a two-year-long trip, unless we wanted to move every 3 days. And we really don't want to move that fast, you know? We're trying to spend enough time in each place to get a real chance to explore. Of course, some of the trip will be a lot more rushed (4 or 5 days in a spot before we move on) but then there will be stretches of a week more often. We may find the pace is too slow or too fast once we get going. Who knows?

Doug is doing all the arrangements, and it's definitely taking a lot of time. He's working quite hard on it! And I need to make a post here about the planning process, actually.

  3. Hello! I'm a friend of a friend who recently mentioned your trip and blog to me. Even though I only know you peripherally, I am so very excited for you! Your trip looks fascinating and I'm happy your little one is feeling better now! I look forward to following your travels through the year. I'm an American living in Prague so if you need anything while you're visiting our fair city (or just would like a home-cooked meal), feel free to call on me! The same goes for India as all my family is there. email is pherooz@gmail.com
